First Political Advisor, Richard Kaltongga, has said the Prime
Minister’s Office continues to sympathize with the West Papua issue
contrary to media reports and accusations however in order for a truly
effective approach to be made, the Vanuatu Government must be on good
terms with the Indonesian Government.
Kaltongga stated: “The issue of West Papua must be separated from
Vanuatu’s bilateral relationship with Indonesia in light of the
potential benefits that could come to Vanuatu from such a relationship.
Irresponsible statements in the media will only jeopardize any
initiative by Vanuatu to establish the appropriate rapport with the
Government of Indonesia.
